Transfer News: Chelsea unlikely to land 20-year-old Bundesliga star anytime soon

Chelsea unlikely to sign Josko Gvardiol in the near future

According to Chelsea transfer guru Simon Johnson (h/t Football. London), Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a deal for talented Croatian centre-back Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in the near future.

Gvardiol is a player who has garnered a lot of interest in recent weeks. His performances for the Bundesliga club have been exceptional for quite some time now and the talent he has is obvious.

The 20-year-old left-sided centre-back had a stupendous World Cup in Qatar where he was easily amongst the best central defenders in the tournament. Not many except Lionel Messi were able to get past Gvardiol in the tournament, once again highlighting his man-marking skills.

The Croatian defender was a rock at the back for his nation alongside former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. They were crucial in their side’s inspirational run that saw them finish third in the standings.

Despite being so young, Gvardiol is extremely well-rounded and there do not seem to be many chinks in his armour. He already seems like an almost finished article with is astonishing.

Chelsea have been interested in signing the talented RB Leipzig defender for quite some time now. However, it has now emerged that the Blues are unlikely to pursue a deal for the talented player anytime soon.

The Blues have recently been heavily linked with a move for AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile and it is claimed that Chelsea have already agreed a deal with the French club to bring him here.

This has solved Graham Potter’s need for a left-footed central defender. Chelsea also spent a lot of money on Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in the summer. They have a number of centre-backs now, meaning further reinforcements in the position aren’t urgent.

It does not make sense for them to go all out and try and sign Gvardiol despite the obvious talent that he possesses. The Croatian is not going to come cheap and it’s best that we don’t go down this road.
