Transfer News: Chelsea target offered fresh terms by current club

Chelsea target Rafael Leao offered an improved contract by AC Milan

According to @DiMarzio (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Chelsea target Rafael Leao has been offered an improved contract by AC Milan with the Italian giants keen on keeping hold of him beyond the current deal.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the talented Portuguese winger for quite some time now. He is touted as a long-term target of Chelsea and this new development will not fill them with confidence.

Chelsea are not the only club in the running for Leao though with Premier League defending champions Manchester City looking to pull off an ambitious swap deal that would see Jack Grealish go the other way.

Leao is highly regarded as one of the best-attacking talents in Serie A. He has been one of AC Milan’s best players in recent seasons and has continued on a similar note this time around as well.

Leao along with Theo Hernandez run riot down the left flank for AC Milan. The duo work beautifully in tandem, complimenting each other’s profiles and the Italian club reap the benefits of this.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that AC Milan want to do what it takes to try and keep Leao in Italy. Romano claims that they have offered him an improved €7m salary net per season contract.

The talented Portuguese winger would be a perfect fit for Chelsea. He is a player who is unlike anyone else we have and is very different from how a typical winger is.

Leao is tall, physical and is a very different type of player. He uses his body strength and movements to get past players, unlike the traditional winger who loves to dribble.

It remains to be seen what decision Leao chooses. Does he stay at AC Milan on improved wages or move to a Premier League team like Chelsea is a call he will have to take and let’s hope he chooses the latter.
