Transfer News: Chelsea cool their interest in Premier League star

Chelsea cool their interest in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea have cooled their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo after being put off by the price tag.

A few days ago, The Athletic reported that Brighton have rejected an initial offer of £55m by Chelsea for the Ecuador international. The feeling is that the Seagulls want something in the region of £75m+ to sell him now.

To cover their bases up, the south coast-based club did make an offer to RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara as a potential replacement for Caicedo. The German side refuted the offer.

So, it seems like Brighton won’t bulge for a price tag lower than what they have in mind to sell the 21-year-old. Chelsea are put off by that price tag and have cooled their interest.

They are in the market for a midfielder though. The links with Enzo Fernandez remain, while the Telegraph reported that they will rival Liverpool for the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes in the summer.

The Blues also made an initial offer to Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. But, the player has rejected that offer and the Toffees are reluctant to sell him as well.

We have been linked with Declan Rice for a long time. However, a recent report in the Guardian has stated that the Englishman would favour a move to Arsenal in the summer.

Slowly but surely, key midfield targets are slipping away from Chelsea’s hands. We have signed a number of players this month, but none to bolster the midfield area.

With how the market of midfielders is shaping up, it seems like a deal to sign either of the targets now is unlikely. The Blues might have to wait till the summer and then see which player is available and at what price.
