Chelsea seek player swap involving UCL hero and prolific Serie A striker

Chelsea consider a player-swap deal between Kai Havertz and Dusan Vlahovic

According to Calcio Mercato (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are considering a swap deal to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic by offering Kai Havertz in return.

It is further revealed that despite spending heavily in the January transfer window, it won’t be a surprise if Chelsea buys another couple of players before the end of this month.

If we look at the signings made though, the Blues are yet to sign a centre-forward. David Datro Fofana has been brought but he is young now and may yet go on loan for the rest of this season. So, that area department needs to strengthen given how profligate we are in front of the goal.

Vlahovic arrived at Juventus last January and has been one of their better players despite the team not doing too well. The Serbia international has scored 16 goals and assisted four in 36 appearances in all competitions for the Old Lady.

If we get him in place of Havertz, it would be a clever piece of business. The German international has not been consistent for Chelsea since the time he arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.

Moreover, we have players like Mason Mount and Joao Felix who can operate as a number 10 or support striker and play in half spaces between the lines.

In Vlahovic, the Blues can get a proven goal-scorer who has been doing well in the Serie A even before joining Juventus. His Fiorentina numbers read 49 goals and eight assists in 108 appearances.

The 22-year-old possesses great finishing technique along with good pace, physical robustness and running the channels to become the release ball when the team is under pressure. Havertz has cemented his name in Chelsea folklore following his winner in the UEFA Champions League final vs Manchester City but has otherwise largely been disappointing.

This business could work wonders in our favour. It remains to be seen whether Graham Potter fancies Vlahovic and is ready to lose Havertz in the middle of the season.
