Chelsea close to signing up for proposed US pre-season tournament

According to the Athletic, Chelsea are seriously considering the possibility of joining the proposed pre-season tournament in the USA ahead of next season.

Holding pre-season tours in the United States is not a new thing at all. It has been one of the most popular destinations to tour for most top teams and attracts a lot of fans too.

However, there is the proposal of making the pre-season a tournament in America instead of the usual one-off friendlies. The organisers are now working towards getting the big six in the Premier League on board.

Chelsea agreeing to this tournament will definitely not be a surprise. Todd Boehly, our new American owner will want to take his team to his own country and would love this proposal.

A number of top European teams including the Blues in fact toured the United States for their pre-season tour ahead of this season. Making this a tournament is only going to increase the number of teams.

Irrespective of it being just a preparatory period and the games strictly being friendlies, when the mask of a tournament comes in, teams will want to compete for the trophy to give them a positive feel about the season.
