Transfer News: Potter unwilling to loan out Chelsea midfielder this January

Chelsea boss Graham Potter does not want Conor Gallagher to leave amidst loan interest

According to Football.London, Chelsea boss Graham Potter does not want midfielder Conor Gallagher amidst interest from Premier League clubs for a loan move.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have both expressed their interest in signing Gallagher on loan during the January transfer window.

After spending the last season on loan at Selhurst Park and doing extremely well, the England international was incorporated into the senior team at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel.

Although he has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, less than half of them have come from the start. He did well against Palace on Sunday from the start.

Given how Potter wants the player to start, it looks unlikely that he will leave before the end of this month. His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt).

We have had problems in controlling games in midfield. Though he has not shown his best form this season, Gallagher’s attributes could be used to good effect for the rest of this season.

The 22-year-old possesses good passing skills, can cover the ground well on and off the ball and has the ability to contribute with goals and assists.

While the win over Palace did stop the three-game losing streak, there are a lot of improvements to be made before Chelsea can be considered among the contenders for a top-four finish.

Gallagher could be a key part of what Potter’s men do from now till the end. Other than that, they would hope that new signings Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile and Mykhailo Mudryk come to the party and provide much-needed ammunition to the team.
