Bayern Munich eyeing a move for 23-year-old Chelsea star

Bayern Munich are interested in signing Chelsea forward Kai Havertz

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg (h/t Football.London), German giants Bayern Munich are interested in signing Chelsea forward and German international Kai Havertz.

Havertz, who has been at Stamford Bridge since the summer of 2020 following his move from Bayer Leverkusen, has not hit the heights here.

With Chelsea spending big money on signing the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke in the January transfer window, they are expected to ship a few out as well to balance the books. Hakim Ziyech has been linked with a Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur move.

On the other hand, Bayern are interested in bringing Havertz back to Bundesliga in the summer. The deal could be worth around £32-£52m. The 23-year-old will have two years left in his contract in the summer (Transfermarkt), so the maximum sale value can be gotten at the time.

The issue with the German has been the lack of consistency. We all know how good a player he is at such a young age. However, the numbers and overall performances haven’t been there at an elite level.

The 23-year-old has scored 29 goals and assisted 18 in 119 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea. Given he has played 53 of those games as a number nine and 55 as a number 10 or support striker (Transfermarkt), those numbers should have been better, especially playing in a side that usually dominates possession and creates chances.

Since he is still young and has a lot of room to improve, it might not be a bad idea for him to change clubs in the summer and go back to a league where he was sensational. Doing well for Bayern could bring back some of the lost confidence and touch which would be good for his career.
