Arsenal reach ‘agreement’ to sign 28-year-old Chelsea transfer target

Arsenal agree £27m deal to sign Chelsea target Leandro Trossard

According to The Athletic (subscription required), Arsenal have agreed a £27m deal to sign Brighton forward and Chelsea target Leandro Trossard.

Along with the Gunners, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were also in the race to sign the Belgian international. It was also reported in the Mirror that the Blues are looking to gatecrash the battle between both the north London clubs to sign the player.

But, it seems like Arsenal have triumphed this time around, after missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk, who was signed by Chelsea in a sensational coup.

Trossard’s time at Brighton did not have a great ending as he was left out of the squad for leaving the training early. Seagulls coach Roberti De Zerbi did have his door open to allow the player back into the team, however, it won’t happen now.

The 28-year-old had a good league season till then, scoring seven goals and assisting three in 16 appearances. A hat trick against Liverpool at Anfield topped off his excellent campaign so far.

Could Chelsea have done more to push the Trossard deal in their favour? Probably so. But, having signed Mudryk and Joao Felix in this window, added to the agreement they have reached to sign Noni Madueke, it seemed as if they did not fancy going into the mix for the Belgian.

It remains to be seen whether we made the right decision by beating Arsenal for Mudryk and letting the Gunners have Trossard. Age-wise, the Mudryk (22) deal makes more sense. Now, we hope that the winger delivers on the promises and is consistent with his performances in years to come.

As for us, its smart not to go and spend on every player that we see. Trossard is close to his 30s and it seems that the Blues are more interested in signing younger players with an eye on setting up a team for the future.

Furthermore, we are still in the race to sign Moises Caicedo, a player who would be important to the side in midfield compared to signing Trossard now.
