“It’s all confirmed”- Romano claims Chelsea are close to announcing the arrival of Ivory Coast forward

Fabrizio Romano: David Fofana to Chelsea is close to unveiling after the completion of medical tests

As per the tweet from Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are close to unveiling the arrival of David Datro Fofana after he successfully completed the medical tests.

With the medical done, there is nothing left to complete with regard to the logistics of this deal apart from the unveiling of the player. The Blues will play €12m to sign him.

Fofana is an Ivory Coast international who was playing for Norwegian side Molde before completing this move to Stamford Bridge.

Fofana was in great form for Molde in the recently concluded Norwegian top-flight league. He scored 15 goals and assisted five in 24 appearances and looked a danger every time he stepped onto the pitch. We all know about a dangerous striker coming from Molde to the big European leagues in the recent past – named Erling Haaland.

Of course, we won’t compare Fofana to Haaland at the moment, but the former has shown signs of being a top centre-forward in years to come.

The 20-year-old possesses electric pace to run the channels and torment back-lines with runs in behind them. He is a very good finisher and has the ability to drop deep and link-up play and create chances for others.

After losing Armando Broja to a season-ending injury last week and seeing how the current number nine options have underperformed this season, Chelsea could have done by adding a striker or two to that department in January. Fofana being one is a good start. Let’s see if we can add one more.

It would also be interesting to see whether Graham Potter will use the 20-year-old straight away in the senior side, or let him settle down and play some games for the youth team before graduating up.

With what we have seen of Fofana in the last 12 months, putting him straight in won’t be a bad idea. Moreover, it is not as if Chelsea are loaded with elite options in that position as of now.
