Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea have signed African forward in €12m deal

Fabrizio Romano: David Datro Fofana to Chelsea is a done deal

Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have completed the deal to sign Model forward David Datro Fofana.

Medical tests are scheduled to take place today (Thursday), which incidentally is the player’s birthday. There is a full agreement between all parties for a deal worth around €12m.

A few days ago, Evening Standard reported that the Blues are close to making the Ivory Coast international their first signing of the January transfer window.

The former Abidjan City FC striker joined Molde in February 2021. In the recently concluded Norwegian league campaign, he scored 15 goals and assisted five in 24 appearances.

The now 20-year-old is a versatile forward who prefers to play the number nine role but is comfortable operating on either side of the wing.

In terms of attributes, Fofana possesses tons of pace to trouble the defenders with runs in behind. He is physically very strong, can run the channels, can create chances by linking up with other forwards and midfielders and has a good shot in him.

In the concluded league season, he averaged 3.1 shots per game, created eight big chances and scored all of his 15 goals from inside the penalty box (Sofascore). So, he exudes the qualities and numbers of a traditional and powerful number nine.

Chelsea have lost young striker Armando Broja for the rest of this season due to an ACL injury. Getting Fofana could be a direct replacement for the Albanian and also add a different dimension to a stale looking forward line. We are excited to see what the 20-year-old can bring to the table.
