Chelsea youngster Cesare Casadei earmarked for a January loan move

According to The Athletic (subscription required) (h/t Football.London), Chelsea youngster Cesare Casadei has been earmarked by the club for a possible loan move in the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old, who arrived from Inter Milan for a deal worth around £12.6m in the preceding summer window, has impressed quite a lot of people playing for the Blues youth sides this season so far.

He scored a worldie from far out against Peterborough in the EFL Trophy that caught the attention of many on social media. It is fair to say that the youngster has a high ceiling in terms of potential.

Cesare Casadei has impressed for the youth and reserve teams so far.

Casadei was part of the squad that underwent the Abu Dhabi-based mid-season warm-weather training camp last week. He also came off the bench in the friendly against Aston Villa on Sunday (December 11).

He is now considered by the club for a short-term loan move next month. Perhaps, Chelsea want him to go to a club where he can gain first-team experience and then come back.

The Blues have good experience of doing that. Mason Mount and Reece James – the two Academy products who were playing for the Chelsea youth sides, went on loan to Derby County and Wigan Athletic, did well there and came back with confidence to challenge for a spot in the senior team. We can see how good they have become now.

Casadei can adopt a similar path on his way to playing regular football for the club’s senior team. He scored four goals and assisted one for the Chelsea U-21s in nine appearances this season so far.

The Italy U-21 international is a central midfielder by trade but can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder in a two-man pivot.

As much as playing and doing well for the youth side is good, gaining experience by playing senior team football at any level close to the elite is valuable. So, Chelsea would be right to find a club that can take Casadei on a short-term basis.
