“Things change quickly”- Inconsistent Chelsea winger opens up on his Stamford Bridge future

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic on immediate focus and future at the club

Speaking on Indirect Podcast, as quoted by Evening Standard, Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has talked about his immediate focus and also addressed his future at the club.

Pulisic, who was part of the USMNT squad that reached the last-16 stage of the World Cup before bowing out to the Netherlands, has been one of the fringe players in the current Chelsea team.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has struggled for regular game time ever since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2019. His future has been linked away from Stamford Bridge for some time now, but nothing has materialised thus far.

Here’s what the American star said when asked about his focus and future (h/t Evening Standard):

“I mean, right now I’m absolutely back at Chelsea and focused and ready to finish the season, but you know how things work in football.

“Things change quickly and anything can happen.

“At the moment I am just pushing myself in training and working at Chelsea because that’s where I am right now.”

Pulisic was linked with a move to Manchester United in the preceding summer window, but the deal did not go through. In the last few weeks, the 24-year-old got linked with United again, this time with Arsenal and Newcastle United. Liverpool are in the periphery too.

The forward has not been able to make the cut at Chelsea under either of the three managers who have taken charge of the club since his arrival.

If we talk about this season, he played a total of only 607 minutes in all competitions for the Blues before the World Cup. He was one of the USA’s best players in Qatar though, which begs the question of why it hasn’t happened for him in west London.

It is a shame though because Pulisic was one of the best upcoming young forwards during his Dortmund days. He is still young though, but the next couple of years are important for him to launch a second wind to his club career. Will it happen at Chelsea? By the evidence of the last three years, it seems unlikely.
