Romano confirms Chelsea will not loan-back new signing to his old club

Chelsea new signing Andrey Santos will not return to his old club Vasco de Gama

According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano via his Twitter, Chelsea are not looking to loan back new January signing Andrey Santos back to his previous club Vasco de Gama in Brazil.

Chelsea completed the second signing of the season in the transfer of Andrey Santos from the Brazilian club, after a deal for Molde forward David Datro Fofana was completed yesterday.

The signing is in line with Chelsea’s plan of Vision 2030 where the club by the year 2030 wants to build up a squad comprised of highly rated young players as well as a decent proportion from the famed Cobham academy.

Santos is one of the latest talents whose name has been doing the rounds with his impressive performances for Vasco de Gama at such a young age. The 18-year-old central midfielder has already made 34 appearances for Vasco de Gama and scored 8 goals in the process, which is impressive considering it has been less than a year since he was promoted to the senior side.

On the other hand, a fee in the region of €12.5m for a wonderfully fitted footballer who will bring in Brazilian flair and excitement is very good value for money.

We have seen in the past with Neymar, Vinicius jr, Rodrygo and Marcelo among many others that Brazilians usually adapt pretty well to European football and it is a wise decision on Chelsea’s part to not send the new signing back to Brazil for another season.

Rather, a loan deal to a good side in Europe will give the exposure he requires to get used to the levels and intensity of play in the top leagues and eventually see him fighting for a starting position at Stamford Bridge.

Todd Boehly has started his regime at Chelsea in the most wonderful manner and it could be said that there would not be many supporters who disagree with this.

While spending money on high-value players in Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella and recently Christopher Nkunku, Boehly has also invested smartly in gathering some highly rated young talent from Europe and now South America to lay down the foundations for a strong team in the future.

With a deal with AS Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile also close to completion, while the club is rumoured to be in the market for Argentina FIFA World Cup star Enzo Fernandez and a potential loan deal for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, it is already turning out to be a very impressive January transfer window even before it officially opens.
