Chelsea star Christian Pulisic backed to be the USA’s best player of all time by former Liverpool goalkeeper
Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has backed Chelsea star Christian Pulisic to be the USA’s best player of all time.
Pulisic signed for the Blues from Borussia Dortmund after a fee of 57.6million Pounds was agreed for him in January 2019. He arrived in England with a huge reputation and big expectations.
And while he has had his moments in a Chelsea shirt, Pulisic has largely failed to impress. He is still young at the age of 24, and can still hit the heights he has been backed to reach since he was a teenager in the Bundesliga.
Currently, he is struggling for regular starts with the Blues. It was the same under manager Thomas Tuchel and that situation hasn’t changed under Graham Potter as well.
He has featured in 13 Premier League games this season, but that has amounted to just 414 minutes of senior action. The USMNT winger, who traveled with manager Gregg Berhalter’s squad to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is also set to enter the final 18 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge (Transfermarkt).
Friedel has backed him to leave the Blues if playing time remains hard to come by. He told Online Casino (h/t Metro):
“If Chelsea aren’t picking Christian Pulisic, then I think he should move elsewhere because he’s good enough to play somewhere.”
Friedel has backed Pulisic to be the best player in the USA’s history if he continues to hone his skills. He does, however, recognise the fact that he has some way to go before overtaking Landon Donovan and former Fulham star Clint Dempsey – with the two having a combined 298 senior caps and 114 goals between them.
“Christian Pulisic is staking a claim towards being the best US player of all time, although he’s got a way to go to get past Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey.”
Pulisic certainly has the weight of the nation on his shoulders whenever he turns out for them. He has perhaps achieved a lot at his young age, including a UEFA Champions League title with us. But he is at a crossroads where he has to take the right call to steer his career in the right direction.
