Report: Chelsea plot surprise move for 22-year-old Manchester United star

Chelsea plot a shock move for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho

According to Calciomercatoweb (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are plotting a shock move for out-of-form Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.

The report also claimed that they will make this move once Christian Pulisic has left the club. As a matter of coincidence, Daily Mail reported a few days ago that United are interested in signing Pulisic are they are worried by the lack of form shown by Sancho since his arrival to England.

The England international was signed by the Red Devils in 2021 summer from Borussia Dortmund in a deal that cost around £73m (BBC). He is yet to show why he is worth that much.

The 22-year-old has scored only eight goals and four assists in 52 appearances in all competitions for United. Although injuries haven’t helped the cause at times, the performances have not been consistent.

Sancho was dropped by Erik ten Hag from the mid-season training camp squad and friendly games. Reports say that the player is currently working on an individual training programme.

Now, we have seen how good he can be during his Dortmund days. But, in England so far, the 22-year-old has not shown enough.

As long as it makes sense why Chelsea are preparing the departure for Pulisic, signing an out-of-form and out-of-confidence Sancho would not make a lot of sense.

But, as we have seen in football, sometimes a change of scenery works wonders for a player. Graham Potter is an excellent manager for young players and developing their talents.

If he is confident of doing the same with Sancho, who are we to argue that? But, it goes without saying that the Blues making this move wouldn’t be without risk.

We need more quality in the forward line. Despite Pulisic’s good form in the World Cup, it seems as if his departure is more or less a certainty. Is Sancho the answer? It is a difficult question to answer.
