Arsenal and Chelsea sent scouts for watching in-demand 23-year-old Netherlands star

Transfer News: Chelsea and Arsenal send scouts to watch PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo

Chelsea and Arsenal sent their scouts to watch PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo in action earlier this month. Manchester United’s scouts were also present according to 90min (h/t Express).

Gakpo was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer. A host of clubs were in the race for him, most notably being Leeds United, Southampton and United, with the Gooners also in the frame.

It seems now even the Blues have taken an interest in the 23-year-old. The Dutch club is believed to value the Netherlands international for £40 million.

The winger has been in exceptional form this season. The 23-year-old has played in 24 games for his side in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and registering 17 assists so far.

Graham Potter could do with a goal-scoring winger like him in his squad. While the Blues have a host of attackers in the team, there is still a lack of finishing up-front this season.

Also, there is still uncertainty about the futures of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic. Both the players have struggled for game-time this season, especially the former. Gakpo could be a possible replacement for either of them, should they leave in January.

Chelsea have also scored just 17 goals so far in the Premier League this season. That is the lowest number for a team in the top 10. Getting an in-form player like the 23-year-old could help improve such numbers and also help the team win some crucial points.

More Chelsea News:

Gakpo is likely to feature for his country in the World Cup in Qatar. With a host of clubs interested in him, a decent run of performance in the tournament could potentially start a bidding war between the top clubs in the Premier League.
