AC Milan could sign Chelsea star on six-month loan in January transfer window

Transfer News: AC Milan interested in taking Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech on a six-month loan deal

Italian giants AC Milan are interested in taking Chelsea and Morocco international midfielder Hakim Ziyech on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy next summer. This is according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella via Absolute Chelsea (h/t Football. London).

The midfielder, who is usually deployed as a winger when not playing in a number 10 role, was heavily linked with a move away from the west London club this summer. The Rossoneri were the ones interested, but nothing could materialise in the end.

However, it seems the Italian club have not given up in their pursuit and now want to take the midfielder on a short loan in January. The 29-year-old is currently in Qatar for the World Cup.

Ziyech has fallen down the pecking order at the club as he looks nowhere near his best. The former Ajax man joined us with so much potential but has not been able to fulfil it on the pitch so far.

The 29-year-old has only played nine times this season in all competitions, starting in only two of them. The midfielder is also yet to score or assist a goal this season for the club. Perhaps a short-term move to Italy could help him regain his mojo in new surroundings.

It would make sense for Graham Potter to allow the player to leave. He does not seem to be in his plans and his departure will free up space in the squad, allowing Potter to potentially bring in a new player of his choice.

Ziyech featured in his side’s goalless draw against Croatia for their opener last time out. The 29-year-old’s performance was below par which invited criticisms from all over. It is clear that the player is low on confidence.

It remains to be seen if the Italian giants do make any official approach for the player in January. The 29-year-old will likely feature in his side’s next game against Belgium this Sunday (27 November).

He must realise that a lot could be riding on this tournament. Good performances at this stage can force Potter into a rethink and hand him more chances to impress – or, it could be a good audition for potential suitors ahead of the January transfer window.
