“It’s not even a competition”- Raheem Sterling names the quickest player in the Chelsea squad

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling names Armando Broja as the fastest player in the team

Chelsea have managed to steady the ship with the appointment of Graham Potter, after a disappointing start to the season under former manager Thomas Tuchel.

One of the major critiques of the German style of play was his reliance on systems and how the players were expected to play according to the designated role, which provided initial success but brought out stagnancy towards the end.

Another factor which led to his downfall was his constant annoyance towards his attackers where chances were limited to the academy players while first-team players in Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech performed way below expectations.

Graham Potter’s reign has brought out a new lease of life for all the players who have been inventive and counter-reactive with his formations to suit the level of the opposition.

One player who has benefitted from such an approach is young forward Armando Broja who is finally getting some minutes in a Blues jersey after loan spells away from the club in previous seasons.

Not only is he getting minutes, but according to summer signing Raheem Sterling (while speaking to BT Sport), Broja is putting the hard work in the training ground and is the sprint race king ahead of the likes of Pierre-Emile Aubameyang, Kalidou Koulibaly and Christian Pulisic who are fairly quick in their strides.

On asked who is the fastest player in the squad, Sterling replied:

“Armando. It’s not even a competition.”

Broja set the league alight last season with his impressive loan spell at Southampton where he notched 9 goals in 38 appearances.

His performances drew the attention of us Blues who were desperate to see how he performs at the highest level with Chelsea and fair to say, the striker has not disappointed up till now.

An avid presser with a strong right foot and impressive dribbling qualities, Broja has it all to lead the line for us in the coming years. He has to continue to work hard and improve his abilities but Potter, who is renowned for bringing the best out of his players is guiding him, there is only one way forward for the player.

Sterling, who is a pace merchant himself, rating Broja’s speed to this extent is nothing but good news for us. It is scary to think a striker of Broja’s build being able to beat defenders for pace and hopefully, the Albanian is the long-term striking solution we have been desperate for.
