Emmanuel Petit: Bundesliga ace on Chelsea’s radar is an upgrade on 23-year-old Cobham graduate

Emmanuel Petit believes Christopher Nkunku is a better player than Chelsea star Mason Mount

Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is a better player than Blues midfielder Mason Mount.

Mount has been linked with a move to Juventus and Liverpool, with the 23-year-old seeing his current contract tick down at the west London club. There have been talks between the two parties, but they seem to have reached a standoff.

On the other hand, the Blues are believed to have finalised a deal for Nkunku to arrive at the club next summer. It is believed that the Frenchman will complete a £52 million switch next summer, providing there is no hindrance between now and then.

Now, former Blues midfielder Petit believes that the Frenchman is better than the Englishman. When asked who was a better player between the two, he told 90min (h/t Express):

“Christopher Nkunku! He was voted player of the year in the Bundesliga. The boy, without making a sound, is crushing everyone.”

Nkunku has been on fire for Leipzig this season. The 25-year-old has played 23 games in all competitions scoring 17 goals and registering another four assists in the process.

Mount, meanwhile has struggled for form this season. The England international has played in 21 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting another six in the process. He is likely to feature for his country in the World Cup, while Nkunku has picked up an injury and will miss the tournament.

While the difference between the two players requires no comparisons, that does not mean both players cannot play together. Nkunku usually plays up front while Mount could be deployed behind him in the midfield. Both the players are exceptionally good and are about to hit their prime ages.

It will be wise for the west London club to agree on a new deal with Mount and also hopefully bring Nkunku. Together they could be an unstoppable force and the Chelsea fans could be in a treat to watch them play together.
