22-year-old Chelsea star reacts after making nation’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher honoured and proud to be selected in the England World Cup squad

As per his Instagram post, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is honoured and proud to have a chance to represent England in the World Cup.

Gallagher was named in the final 26-man squad that will be flying to Qatar to play for the Three Lions with the hope to bring the trophy back for the first time in 56 years.

The 22-year-old’s rise to this position in the last 12 months has been both fantastic to watch. It was an excellent loan spell at Crystal Palace last season that got him the prominence of arriving at the big stage. He has forced himself into the regular Chelsea XI this season and has not looked out of place in the team.

In terms of international experience, Gallagher has very little of it with only four appearances, two of them in friendlies. So, he doesn’t have a tournament experience behind him.

However, the midfielder has shown in the last year how good he is. Moreover, with five substitutions allowed and this World Cup taking place in Qatar, England would need more energy in the midfield from the bench. Gallagher can provide that in abundance.

The 22-year-old can operate as a central midfielder or as a number 10. His positional versatility and high work ethic could be of great importance to the Three Lions during the tournament.

Before going there though, Gallagher has a tough league game away at Newcastle United to focus on this Saturday. Chelsea have been winless in four league games now, the last of which was against London rivals Arsenal.

They are already falling behind in the top-four race, hence it is vitally important that they finish the first half of the season on a high by beating fellow top-four chasers Newcastle. Gallagher would be needed to provide energy and dynamism to the midfield.
