Eddie Lewis believes Christian Pulisic can make a comeback to the Chelsea squad

Former Preston North End and USMNT winger Eddie Lewis believes fellow countryman and Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic can make a comeback to the first squad.

Pulisic, who moved to the west London club in 2019 from Borussia Dortmund, has struggled to establish himself as a regular for the club. The 24-year-old also has been linked with a move away from the club in recent times.

Now, former USMNT winger Lewis was asked if Pulisic can still work his back into the Chelsea squad. Speaking to Daily Star Sport, the former winger gave his opinion.

“Absolutely, he’s definitely one of a few players really trying to get some of their careers back on track. Christian has had an up and down time at Chelsea for sure. He is the big name for the US. His influence on the game is critical, but, unlike a few other teams, I don’t think the US is really as dependent on one or two players.”

The American has been a fringe player for Graham Potter this season. The USMNT international has played in 18 games so far this season in all competitions but has started in only five of them.

Potter has preferred Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount over him. While the former has also struggled since making the move here this summer, the latter has been very good for us and is also expected to play an important role for England in the World Cup.

However, the 24-year-old has a chance to prove himself. The USMNT will take on the Three Lions later today for their FIFA World Cup group-stage match and a decent performance there could maybe help in changing Potter’s mind about him.

Pulisic is likely to start against the Three Lions and will hope to get on the scoresheet. He provided an assist in their 1-1 draw against Wales last time out. A decent performance against England could help his cause in the long run.

More Chelsea News:

He is at a delicate point in his career where it could be a make-or-break situation for him at Chelsea. He is young, but he doesn’t have forever. If and when he gets his chances, he must be on hand to take it and make it hard for any manager to drop him to the bench again.
