“Get a result”- Chelsea manager Graham Potter wary of ‘pumped up’ Newcastle United

Chelsea manager Graham Potter wary of ‘pumped up’ Newcastle United

Chelsea boss Graham Potter is wary of a pumped-up Newcastle United side as the two clubs prepare to clash for their final Premier League game before the World Cup break, this Saturday (12 November).

The Magpies have been exceptional this season so far. Eddie Howe’s side sits third on the table and will be in a really good frame of mind after beating Crystal Palace on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

As for the Blues, things have not been good in the past couple of matches. The west London club lost 2-0 in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City last Wednesday and have won only three games of the last five in all competitions.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have won all their last five games in all competitions and Potter is aware of his opponent’s form. Speaking to the media after the City game, as quoted in Chronicle Live, the Blues gaffer had his say.

“They have had a fantastic season so far. Eddie’s done a great job there and they will be pumped and ready for us because that’s the nature of the Premier League and how they have started the season. We have to perform like we did tonight and learn a few little lessons and try and take another step forward. If we can do that then we can go there and get a result.”

Potter needs a win before the World Cup break starts. The west London club are currently seventh on the table with 21 points, six off third-placed Newcastle and 13 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Head-to-head, the Blues have a big advantage over their opponents. The two sides have met 54 times in the Premier League with the west London club winning 29 times and the Magpies 13. 12 games have ended in a draw.

But this time the hosts could be considered favourites given the form they are in. Chelsea won 1-0 the last time these two sides played and fans will hope for a similar, if not better result at St. James’ Park tomorrow.
