Transfer News: Chelsea cool their interest in Everton star Anthony Gordon

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have cooled their interest in Everton’s promising young attacker Anthony Gordon heading into the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old was a standout performer for the Toffees in the 2021-22 campaign where they just about managed to stave off relegation. This brought Gordon to the attention of Chelsea who made a major play to land him last summer.

The Blues saw an offer worth £45m rejected by Everton who were keen to keep hold of the player. Ultimately he stayed put and continues to thrive in Frank Lampard’s side on Merseyside.

Chelsea have since changed managers and it would appear a portion of their transfer wishlist. Gordon is no more a priority as the Blues cool their interest in securing his services. Whether it is because of Thomas Tuchel’s sacking or otherwise remains unclear.

With the Blues no more in the fray, the stage has now been set for Tottenham Hotspur to make their move. Antonio Conte’s men were also keen on the 21-year-old in the summer and are now ready to make their move in January.

The Lilywhites have enjoyed a rather good start to the season by their standards and can be seen as outsiders to challenge for the title. The squad is still lacking in some aspects and adding the right reinforcements in January will certainly help.

Tottenham appears to be doing just that and are prepared to splash out around £60m for the player’s services. While Gordon is certainly killed, the amounts being offered overtly exaggerate his potential.

Chelsea do need to revamp their attacking line and have no option but to dip into the market in the coming windows. However, there will be far better options to splash the cash on than the Toffees star. In many ways, we are glad that the club have cooled their interest and are looking elsewhere.
