Report: Former Chelsea manager rejects Bundesliga return

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchels rejects Bayer Leverkusen job offer

According to Sport1 (h/t Evening Standard), Thomas Tuchel has rejected his first job offer, from German club Bayer Leverkusen, since getting the sack from Chelsea.

Tuchel was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge on September 7, hours after his Chelsea team lost to Dinamo Zagreb 1-0 in their opening fixture of the Champions League.

The timing of the sack was a weird one irrespective of an indifferent start to the season. The German played a key role during the summer transfer window to identify the players needed by him because of a lack of a sporting director. As a return gift, he was given a job termination notice a week after the deadline day.

Chelsea have appointed former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter since, who has overseen two games so far and has one win and one draw under his belt.

It’s been almost a month now that Tuchel has been out of a job. He was offered one by Leverkusen, who are seeking a change in manager after a poor start to the season. However, the former Borussia Dortmund boss is not interested in taking this job. As a result, the Bundesliga side are now interested in hiring Xabi Alonso.

The 49-year-old’s time at Chelsea was filled with success and missing out on trophies by small margins. Four months into his role in West London, he led the team to a Champions League success in 2021. He also won the Club World Cup, along with losing both domestic cup finals to Liverpool on penalties last season.

Frankly, not many managers are able to achieve this much in a short period of time. In addition, the German had to deal with off-the-field issues in the latter half of last season as well, regarding former owner Roman Abramovich and the events surrounding his country Russia.
