Newcastle United willing to pay £25 million for Chelsea target Leandro Trossard in January transfer window
Brighton & Hove Albion forward and Chelsea target Leandro Trossard is being eyed by Newcastle United in a £25 million transfer in January, according to transfer expert Graeme Bailey on the Talking Transfers podcast (h/t Express).
The Magpies are interested in the Belgian and the club’s hierarchy are looking to bring him to St. James’ Park. Dan Ashworth, the former director of the Seagulls, now working with Eddie Howe, wants to pursue the 27-year-old’s signature.
Trossard’s current contract at the Amex is set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season. Thus, Brighton could be tempted to accept Newcastle’s offer for the Belgian in the winter transfer window. However, the Seagulls have also tabled a new deal to the forward.
Former Brighton manager and current Chelsea head coach Graham Potter is also eyeing a reunion with the 27-year-old. He was signed by the English manager in his first transfer window with the Seagulls in 2019.
Trossard was a key player for Potter at Brighton until the manager’s appointment in the Stamford Bridge dugout. In the current campaign, the Belgian has featured in 11 Premier League games, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
Chelsea’s struggles in front of goal
Currently, at Chelsea, the gaffer has multiple options for the wings. However, most of our forwards have been underwhelming this season. We have not lost a single game since Potter’s arrival. However, our attacking play still leaves a lot to be desired.
Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyand were signed in the recent transfer window to help the Blues be more clinical in front of the goal. Unfortunately, fans can see the same problems that plagued us in the previous campaign.
The likes of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Armando Broja are not contributing as much in putting the ball in the back of the net. In the draws against Brentford and Manchester United in the league, the Stamford Bridge side have failed to create a lot of chances.

While Trossard is a decent player, supporters want someone clinical. Whether the Belgian is the answer to Potter’s problems at the club remains to be seen.
