Potter set to give out-of-favour forward a lifeline at Chelsea

Graham Potter to give Christian Pulisic a chance to prove his worth at Chelsea

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic is going to be given a chance by Graham Potter to prove his worth before the new gaffer decides on the United States star’s future, according to 90min (h/t Express).

The USMNT forward was linked with a move away from the Blues in the recent transfer window. Manchester United were amongst the clubs interested in the 24-year-old.

Pulisic was not the first name on the team sheet under Thomas Tuchel. The 24-year-old had fallen out of favour under the German head coach. However, the forward remained with the Stamford Bridge side.

Chelsea, since then, have parted ways with Tuchel and appointed the former Brighton & Hove Albion boss. However, the new manager is open to giving the USMNT star more opportunities.

Potter has asked Chelsea to put speculation around Pulisic’s future on hold. The English manager wants to assess his squad before making any decisions. And Todd Boehly has been told to keep hold of the 24-year-old as the former Seagulls boss works on him in training.

Pulisic arrived at Chelsea in the 2019/20 campaign. And the USMNT star played an essential role for the team in his first couple of seasons. However, the 24-year-old has seen his game time dwindle.

In the previous campaign, Pulisic started 13 games for the Blues in the Premier League. And up until now, in the current season, the forward has started just one game in all competitions.

Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the recent transfer window. The two were brought to bolster the forward line of the Stamford Bridge side.
