“It was too bad for him”- Graham Potter explains reason for this Chelsea star’s substitution in Brighton humiliation

Graham Potter reveals why he took Chelsea goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga off

Speaking in the post-match press conference after Chelsea’s humiliating loss to Brighton in the Premier League as quoted by Football. London, Chelsea boss Graham Potter reveals why he had to take Kepa Arrizabalaga off in the game against the Seagulls.

The Blues lost 4-1 to Graham Potter’s former side as they suffered their first defeat under their new manager. It was disappointing for Chelsea who were showing a lot of signs of improvement in the past few weeks but could not get past Brighton.

One player who had to be taken off during the game against the Seagulls was Chelsea’s shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard has had a new lease of life under Graham Potter and has been performing exceptionally well between the sticks.

He was going through what has been arguably his best phase as a Chelsea player. It comes as a huge blow if the Spanish shot-stopper is out for a long time, especially with the player also finding a spot in the preliminary squad for the Qatar World Cup.

In his absence for Chelsea, they have the talented Eduardo Mendy to step in. The Senegalese international has had a shocking turn in fortunes under Graham Potter and he could not get a better chance than this to regain his starting berth.

Speaking about the injury, Potter did not know what exactly happened with Kepa and it remains to be seen how the Spaniard recovers from this.

“He felt the bottom of his foot, so I don’t know, it’s too early yet. It was too bad for him to carry on. So that is disappointing for him because he is in a really good moment.”

Kepa’s renaissance story is turning out to be arguably the best story of this season and he will be hoping to return soon and continue the good work. Luckily for him, the international break is not too far away; even if he is injured, he has enough time to recover.

Chelsea will also be looking to recover from their humiliating loss to Potter’s old side. They will want to continue the good work that they have been doing so far and put this shocking loss to Brighton behind them. They have a Champions League match to play midweek.
