“We can win this game”- Aston Villa star fires warning to Chelsea ahead of Premier League encounter

Club News: Douglas Luiz has fired a warning to Chelsea ahead of game against Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has fired a warning to Chelsea ahead of their Premier League clash this Sunday. The 24-year-old believes his side can ‘win’ against the Blues.

Speaking to Villa TV (h/t Birmingham Mail), the Brazilian international believes his side can take all three points against the west London club and also highlighted the quality in the dressing room.

“I think it’s a difficult game. But we’re training so hard, we need the one good plan. We have such good players in the dressing room, I believe so much in Aston Villa. It’s [why] I’m here, I’m so happy and I think we can win this game.”

Villa are unbeaten in their previous four games, although they have won only one in that and drawn the rest. Their last game ended as a 1-1 draw against newly promoted side Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been in fine form. The west London club have won their last two Premier League games and will look to make it a third straight win this Sunday at Villa Park.

The Blues were excellent in their previous game as they beat AC Milan 2-0 courtesy of goals from Jorginho and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, to go atop their Champions League group table. The west London club have remained undefeated in all competitions since Graham Potter’s appointment in September.

A win could help the Blues in the long run. They sit fourth on the table with 16 points, eight behind leaders Arsenal. Villa are 16th on the table with only nine points from nine games.

While the game looks in favour of Chelsea on paper, things are quite different on the pitch. It will be wise for Potter to field a strong team and not take their opponents lightly. They will be eager to make a point led by an under-pressure Steven Gerrard.
