“Need legs”- Chelsea told not to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for this reason

Tony Casacarino tells Chelsea not to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has urged the Blues to look for a centre-forward who is a ‘determined runner’ rather than pursuing Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Blues were linked with a move to sign Ronaldo this summer and could rekindle their interest in the Portugal international. His desire to leave Old Trafford is well-documented while he is in the final year of his contract.

Cascarino believes Chelsea need a striker who basically does his fair share of running. Those who have seen Cristiano Ronaldo in action for Manchester United in recent months would have noticed that he doesn’t do a lot of tracking back.

Cascarino told talkSPORT (h/t MEN):

“Chelsea need legs in the centre forward position, they need someone who’s a real, determined runner, who gets into positions and is quick. I would be amazed if that happened, if Ronaldo ended up at Stamford Bridge.”

He added that it would be a surprise to see United agree to let Ronaldo leave and join a direct rival. If the Portuguese decides to run down his contract, however, then the Red Devils won’t have a choice in the next club he joins – if any.

“I don’t see Manchester United wanting to do that, it would be cutting your nose to spite your face, it really would. If you let him go there and Chelsea finish above you, it would be a really bad look for United.”

We signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona on deadline day in the recently concluded transfer window. The 33-year-old Gabon international is a potent attacker who has shown his pedigree in France, England, Germany, and Spain.

However, he’s not really seen as a long-term option up front given his age. The Blues also have Romelu Lukaku out on a season-long loan to Inter Milan.

More Chelsea News:

It’s important that Todd Boehy and co. consult manager Graham Potter to decide on who fits our frontline – not just for now, but for several years in the future. We cannot afford to make another expensive mistake in the centre-forward position.
