Chelsea set to appoint new technical director following key target’s dismissal from current club

Chelsea set to appoint recently sacked Christopher Vivell as new technical director

According to the Telegraph (h/t Metro), Chelsea is set to appoint Christopher Vivell as their new technical director after he was sacked from the same role by RB Leipzig earlier today.

Vivell was dismissed by the German side due to ‘contrasting views’ as mentioned in the club’s official statement. The former director has been credited as one of the people who discovered Erling Haaland.

The former Leipzig man has been on the Blues shortlist for some time now. The west London club are also said to have had conversations with who could soon be the new technical director at Stamford Bridge, as per Fabrizio Romano.

He is not the first Leipzig management man whom Todd Boehly has targeted. The Blues were also interested in their sporting director Christoph Freund. A move looked done before Freund decided to stay back in Germany.

Seeing the new Chelsea co-owner target people from the Red Bull group is hardly surprising. Boehly has publicly expressed his desire to run a multi-club system at Chelsea like that of the RB group or City group.

The Blues hierarchy seems impressed by the Red Bull group’s management and has started to poach as many as possible. Apart from the management, the Blues are also interested in their players.

Christopher Nkunku is said to have already agreed to a deal with the Blues to join them next summer. The Blues are also interested in Croatian centre-back Josko Gvardiol and are expected to bid for him either in January or next summer.

This appointment will be a welcome step for Boehly who is looking to change the entire backroom staff. Having a technical director with him before the January window could help the club in its scouting process. Also, the director could help the co-owner in his search for a sporting director.
