Chelsea ace is ready to leave Stamford Bridge amidst PSG interest

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is ready to leave on a Bosman transfer in 2023

According to Metro, Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante is ready to leave the club for free if the club does not offer him a better contract length. French champions Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing the player.

The 31-year-old, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, is now in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Unless there is no agreement on an extension, he could talk to foreign clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement from January 1 onwards.

Kante has been one of the best midfielders in the league for quite a number of years now. He helped the Blues win the Premier League title in his first season at the club. He was also a key player in the team lifting the Champions League title in 2021.

Despite his great impact on the team, the Frenchman has missed a lot of games due to injuries in the last two to three seasons. He has already missed more than a month of action this season with a hamstring injury.

The former Leicester City midfielder was offered a verbal offer of a two-year extension with an option of a third season by the new regime at Chelsea. He rejected the offer stating that the length of the contract needs to be increased.

With January not far away and a World Cup in between, the decision from the Blues has to be quick regarding the future of the 31-year-old. Is it worth giving an injury-prone player an extension of more than two years guaranteed? Moreover, his age means he may not be at the top of his game for a long time (unless proven otherwise).

The hierarchy at Chelsea have to make their minds up and reach a conclusion soon so that this doesn’t turn into a saga that drags for a number of weeks and months. Blues’ manager Graham Potter has labelled the player as ‘hard to replace’ and it could certainly prove to be the case unless we do our due diligence.
