Report: Chelsea to target strengthening three positions next summer

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly to target three positions for investment next summer

According to Daily Star, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is preparing to back his new manager Graham Potter with a transfer war chest next summer, with significant investment in three positions in the team to compete with the top teams in England and Europe.

Potter believes the current Blues squad need three world-class additions in goalkeeping, midfield and centre-forward department to challenge for the biggest titles. Boehly, who has already spent in excess of £250m this summer to add to the squad, is to ready unleash his purse next summer too.

Chelsea are in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham but believe they are playing catch up with the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool ahead. The German side have placed a price tag of £131m on the England international.

If the Blues are unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 19-year-old, they could go for their long-term target Declan Rice of West Ham United.

On the other hand, there have been latest revelations that Chelsea have had a secret medical on RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku done and they will cash in the player’s release clause of £52.8m in his contract next summer.

In terms of goalkeeping, Potter is yet to be convinced by Edouard Mendy who has rejected a new contract offer from the club. There is still time for the player to showcase his worth in the team though. So, forecasting anything in this issue would be a silly thing to do.
