Chelsea suffer a triple transfer blow before summer deadline day

Transfer News: Chelsea set to miss out on Wilfried Zaha, Anthony Gordon and Arsen Zakharyan

According to The Sun, Chelsea have suffered triple transfer blow in the pursuit of a new forward and midfielder. The Blues are set to miss out on Wilfried Zaha, Anthony Gordon and Arsen Zakharyan.

Chelsea are said to have spent a whooping £263 million this summer under new ownership. Top-class players like Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have been bought in this summer. But results have been disappointing.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have only two of the five games this season and currently sit ninth on the table with seven points. That’s eight points behind leaders and rivals Arsenal, who have maintained a perfect start to their season.

Gordon had emerged as an option for the club in the past month. The Everton youth boy can play as a midfielder and forward. Such versatility is what Tuchel looks for in his players. But after weeks of persuasion, the 21-year-old is looking to stay at his current club this season.

The Toffees were demanding north of £100 million for their player, while the Blues were prepared to go high as £40 million. And as such, any deal now seems to be off with Frank Lampard also telling that it was too late to sell the player.

On the other hand, the Evening Standard reports that a source close to Crystal Palace has said that the deal for Zaha is “unlikely”. The 29-year-old has less than a year remaining in his current contract and the Eagles are desperate to hold on to their star player.

Zakharyan to Chelsea also will not happen due to the ongoing sanctions on the Russian economy due to the war in Ukraine. The attacking midfielder is said to have a £12.6 million release clause in his contract and the deal has hit a roadblock over how the transfer fee will be paid.
