Report: AC Milan retain interest in 29-year-old Chelsea midfielder

Transfer News: AC Milan are still interested in Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech

According to TMW (h/t football.london), Italian giants AC Milan are still interested in Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech.

The Italian club was interested in the 29-year-old, and even held talks with the club and player for the same. However, no move could materialise and the Moroccan stayed back in London.

Now, the report says that the Serie A side is still interested in the former Ajax Amsterdam man, and are planning to land him in January after their failed attempt this summer.

Ziyech moved to west London from Ajax in 2020 for £33 million. The midfielder, who is usually deployed as a right-winger, had a phenomenal season with the Dutch, including reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, since making the move the 29-year-old has been unable to replicate the form that earned him a move to England. Despite winning the Champions League in his first season here, the Moroccan has struggled for game time.

The midfielder managed to make only 23 league appearances last season, starting in only 14 of them. This season too he has struggled and has managed to play only four times in all competitions, starting only once.

With a new manager at the helm, fortunes could perhaps turn for the 29-year-old. But given the form he is in, it is hardly likely to be so. Nevertheless, Milan will likely be keeping an eye on how things turn out for the player at his current side.

Ziyech’s current contract runs till 2025 (transfermarkt). If the player cannot win the trust of the new manager, it is highly likely that he will depart in January, after coming close to doing the same in the summer.
