Romano: 26-year-old Chelsea wideman in Spain to complete move to La Liga side

Romano: Forgotten Chelsea man Kenedy in Spain to complete move to La Liga side Real Valladolid

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea wideman Kenedy is in Spain in order to complete a deadline day transfer to Real Valladolid.

The 26-year-old signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2015 from Fluminense. Seven years later, he has mustered just three goals and provided four assists in 30 senior games for the club.

His current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). Romano hasn’t specified whether a deal would be a loan move or a permanent one.

Either way, it wouldn’t matter. Kenedy has only made three appearances under manager Thomas Tuchel despite being recalled from his loan spell this January after a season-ending injury to Ben Chilwell.

Wise move for all parties

Hugo Vallejo and Toni Villa are already with the Spanish club as options down the left flank, but Kenedy, 26, brings with him the experience of playing in multiple leagues and having trained at an elite club like Chelsea.

Moreover, he has a fair idea of Spanish football, having played on loan for Granada and Getafe before. He is yet to get a minute this season at Chelsea.

And it would have been hard to force his way into that left-wing-back position after the arrival of Marc Cucurella, who will compete with Ben Chilwell for starts. It remains to be seen if the deal will be finalised and announced before the transfer window deadline today.
