The visitors took the lead against the run of play when Felix Nmecha scored a beautiful header inside the box in the 35th minute. Lee Carsley’s side did not take much longer to respond as in-form Folarin Balogun equalised the game in the 41st minute.

Gallagher would then find the back of the net in the 47th minute after Everton’s Anthony Gordon’s cross would find the Chelsea midfielder. Both sides had their moments throughout the game, but Cole Palmer sealed the win in injury time by scoring the third for the Young Lions.

The Young Lions have won both their games in this month’s international friendlies and will carry this confidence as they prepare for next summer’s Under-21 Euro Finals.

Blues fans will be happy with Gallagher’s performance for his country. The midfielder has had a turbulent start with Chelsea this season. The 22-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations so far.

But his performances in both the friendlies this month would serve as a boost for him. Graham Potter will be impressed by his performance and maybe he could help the west London club change their fortunes too.

He was not the only Blues player who was on fire last night. Levi Colwill, who is currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, also started the game for the Young Lions. He was rock solid at the back and his performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

With the international break now getting over, the players will return for club duty. Gallagher had a very impressive international duty and will hope that his performance caught the eye of Gareth Southgate. It remains to be seen if he is named in the England squad for the World Cup in November.
