Journo: Chelsea-Salzburg UCL game to go ahead, Liverpool’s fate unclear

Chelsea-Salzburg Champions League tie to go ahead, Liverpool game not looking great

As per a tweet from Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail, the Chelsea-RB Salzburg game in the UEFA Champions League is set to go ahead as scheduled. However, no official word on whether the Blues’ will face Liverpool at the weekend.

The latest on the Liverpool game is that it is not looking great. The Queen’s funeral is planned to take place on the 19th of September, Monday. The expectancy is that there will be extra police officials drafted in to take charge of the security ahead of the funeral in London.

What that would mean is that there will be a shortage of security personnel to conduct a Premier League game in the same city on Sunday.

The good news, for now, is that Chelsea are set to face Salzburg on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge. After a disappointing result in Zagreb last week, the pressure is on them to kickstart their Champions League campaign against the Austrian champions.

This game would also be a significant moment for new manager Graham Potter, who will take charge of his first Blues game this midweek.

He would be hoping to make a winning start, after getting a few days to conduct training with the players after the postponement of the weekend’s game against Fulham due to the Queen’s death.

The former Swansea City and Brighton boss was appointed as the new Chelsea manager last Thursday, a day after Thomas Tuchel was sacked following the Dinamo Zagreb defeat.

The Blues have never faced Salzburg in a competitive fixture in the past. The Austrian side are capable of turning any team over, having played well against AC Milan on the opening night. So, this is not a walk in the park for the west London club, especially given their current dip in form.
