Report: AC Milan considering a move for 21-year-old Chelsea striker

AC Milan are considering a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja

According to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Italian champions AC Milan are considering a move to sign young Chelsea striker Armando Broja. They see him as the perfect fit for their system.

Broja, who spent a season on loan at Southampton last season, signed a new six-year contract with the Blues that is going to keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2028.

Before the signature, the Albanian international was close to leaving the club in the transfer window. West Ham United were one of the notable suitors. But former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel blocked the move.

Armando Broja signed a new deal at Chelsea earlier this month.

Broja had a great time playing for Southampton under Ralph Hasenhuttl last season. Though he scored only six goals in 32 league appearances, his performance and general contribution to the team were immense. Moreover, playing in a two-man attack can generally lead to one of them scoring more than the other.

However, despite the contract extension, Milan are confident of signing the 21-year-old. The striker has a price tag of £26m, which wouldn’t put them off from making an offer. Manager Stefano Pioli believes that the player fits the bill in his playing system.

The defending Serie A champions have ageing players in their number nine position. Olivier Giroud (35) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (40) don’t particularly shout out as long-term solutions. Divock Origi (27) was signed in the summer, but he could be more of a backup option.

Chelsea should keep hold of Broja despite AC Milan interest.

So, it is clear why they are looking to sign a young but promising centre-forward in Broja. From Chelsea’s viewpoint though, is it worth reaching a six-year extension with the player only to let him go a few months or a year later? No.
