Trevoh Chalobah garners transfer interest from several clubs with Chelsea role uncertain

The future of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is uncertain, with a number of clubs interested in a permanent transfer or loan move, according to Adam Newson via Absolute Chelsea on Twitter (h/t football.london).

Several clubs across Europe are considering making a move for the 23-year-old. Considering Chalobah’s reduced role this season, potential suitors seemingly feel a move for the Chelsea defender is possible.

The England U21 international saw a lot of game time in the previous campaign. After a successful season on loan with FC Lorient, the 23-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge for the 2021/22 campaign.

Last season, Chalobah featured in 31 games for the Blues. He started 17 games in the Premier League for the London side. And the 23-year-old impressed fans with the shift he put in.

Chelsea lost a lot of centre-backs this summer. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the club as their contract expired. That has left us with a shortage of defensive options.

Thomas Tuchel has been provided with a new centre-back during this transfer window. Kalidou Koulibaly arrived at Stamford Bridge from Napoli. The 31-year-old had established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Serie A.

The other options for the back three include Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Chalobah. Fans thought the 23-year-old would have a more significant role to play this season, considering the lack of options. But it seems Tuchel has other defenders ahead of the England U21 international in the pecking order.

Chalobah has been on the bench for the opening two games of the 2022/23 campaign. Azpilicueta and Reece James have been trusted in the right-centre-back position by Tuchel ahead of the 23-year-old.

it wouldn’t be wise to sell a centre-back at the moment. Chelsea don’t have a lot of depth and a single injury could derail the season.
