Serie A side interested in this out-of-favour Chelsea striker

Transfer News: Salernitana are interested in Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi

According to Di Marzio (h/t Express), Serie A side Salernitana are interested in signing out-of-favour Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian international has been down in pecking order with regards to the forward options at Stamford Bridge.

Salernitana, who avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, are in the lookout for a striker to bolster their forward line before the deadline of the summer transfer window. Batshuayi has one year left in his contract with Chelsea, with an option for an extra year.

The 28-year-old spent the last season on loan with Turkish side Besiktas, where he had one of the better years as a player. He scored 14 goals and assisted five in 33 league appearances and had some very good games there.

The Belgian international has had other loan moves at Crystal Palace, Borussia Dortmund and Valencia after joining from Marseille in the summer of 2016.

Now could be the right time to make a permanent move elsewhere. It is clear that he would not get any meaningful game time at Chelsea despite the fact that the Blues could have done with a striker leading the line in the three Premier League games gone by.

Salernitana would certainly benefit from having such an experienced campaigner on their side, with the hope that he guides them through a routine safety in the Italian top-flight, unlike last season.

It would be good for Batshuayi to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal this summer.

For Chelsea, it is better to get a player off their books, especially knowing that he won’t be used by the manager, rather than keeping him and loaning him out every passing summer.

So, both clubs will be hoping to get this deal done before the deadline. Moreover, getting it done on a permanent contract would suit all the parties.
