PL rivals make fresh bid for Chelsea target

Transfer News: Manchester United make fresh approach for Chelsea target Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang

According to Di Marzio, Premier League rivals Manchester United make a fresh approach for Chelsea target Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang from Barcelona this summer.

Chelsea have been interested in signing Aubameyang for some time now. The Blues are looking at the Gabonese veteran as an option to reinforce their attacking option. With the exits of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, the London club find themselves short of striker options.

Armando Broja is one of the strikers that Chelsea have in the squad but Thomas Tuchel seems keen on signing another striker. Although Aubameyang is 33 years old, he is on top of his game and has been very impressive for Barcelona over the last six months.

Aubameyang joined Barcelona from Arsenal on a free transfer on deadline day in the January transfer window last season. The Gabonese forward had fallen out with Mikel Arteta at the Emirates and had to move out to revive his career.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker joined Barcelona at a time when the Spanish club were languishing midtable and needed a huge upturn in fortune to get them Champions League football for this season. To say that Aubameyang was the catalyst for the revival will be an understatement.

Such was the impact of his performances for the Spanish club that teams in the Premier League are now again interested in the services of the former Arsenal man. Manchester United and Chelsea have both been interested in the forward and are looking to sign him.

Barcelona have signed Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski this summer and this means that the Gabonese striker will not get as much game time as he did last season if he stayed at Camp Nou. PL clubs are looking to take advantage of this and sign the player.

Chelsea are keen on signing the Barcelona man but they will not have it easy, especially with Manchester United also in the race. Regardless of which club signs him, Aubameyang will only be a short-term fix but he still has what it takes to be successful for at least a couple of seasons.
