Boost for Chelsea as PL rivals are ready to sell defensive star

Transfer News: Leicester City willing to sell Wesley Fofana amid Chelsea interest

According to The Athletic (h/t The Irish Sun), Leicester City are considering selling Wesley Fofana this summer. The 21-year-old centre-back has been on the radar of Chelsea for a while now.

The Blues have seen two offers of theirs being turned down by the Foxes as they fell short of Leicester’s £85 million valuation of the French centre-back. But now Chelsea could be in luck as the Foxes are willing to entertain offers for the defender.

It is said that the Blues may offer a player plus cash deal for the centre-back. The France Under-21 international arrived at Leicester in 2020 from the French side Saint-Etienne. But in the short time here in England, he has proven himself to be one of the best in the trade.

The 21-year-old missed majority of the last season due to an injury. But the 12 matches that he played in all competitions showed what a quality centre-back he is for someone his age. He even helped his side reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Chelsea have their own problem at the back currently. Thomas Tuchel will be without Kalidou Koulibaly for their next game as he is suspended. The Blues have very limited options at the back at their disposal. It is no secret that we could do with a few additions at the back.

Should a deal be struck between the two clubs, it should be smooth sailing from then on. The player has already agreed to personal terms with the Blues and could even be in contention to start their next game. A proven Premier League defender, he would make a fine addition to the Chelsea backline.

The west London side put in a poor performance during their last game against Leeds United. The Yorkshire-based club put 3 past Chelsea and all were very well deserved. This loss meant that the club’s undefeated streak came to an end as they currently sit 12th on the table with four points.
