Transfer News: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the verge of completing Chelsea move

According to Spanish outlet Rac 1, a deal for the Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is almost done with Chelsea said to be very close to signing the veteran striker from Barcelona as things stand.

Chelsea have been very actively pursuing a deal for the former Arsenal superstar in the past few weeks. The Blues are desperate for a striker and want to sign the Barcelona man but an agreement with the Spanish giants has not really materialised.

Aubameyang joined Barcelona for Arsenal in the January transfer window on deadline day. He was signed on a free transfer after the talented striker fell out with Mikel Arteta at the Emirates and an exit seemed to be the only option for the duo.

When Barcelona signed Aubameyang, they had one of the worst starts to the campaign. The Spanish club were struggling to score goals and needed someone of the Gabonese calibre to help propagate them back to the Champions League places.

To say that the 33-year-old did his job for Barcelona will be an understatement. Aubameyang quickly showed his quality and became one of the best strikers in the league during his time there last season almost single-handedly helping Barcelona finish second.

He showed that he meant business and was not yet done at the highest level. Aubameyang with his performances shut down all his haters and turned out to be an excellent acquisition for Xavi Hernandez’s team. However, there is still doubt over his future.

The doubts though are not due to Aubameyang’s quality though, but more to do with the fact that the Spanish giants have signed Robert Lewandowski. The Polish superstar is arguably the best striker in the world at the moment and this could mean lesser game time for Auba.

Chelsea have sold Timo Werner and loaned out Romelu Lukaku this summer. This leaves Armado Broja as the only natural striking option in the squad. In such a long season, signing a player like Aubameyang with so much experience seems like smart business.

Aubameyang to Chelsea will be a very good transfer. Yes, he is a former Arsenal player but he has what it takes to win over the Stamford Bridge faithful and be an important player for us, in the near future.
