Chelsea to offer £60 million for promising rival PL starlet

Transfer News: Chelsea prepared to offer £60 million for Anthony Gordon

According to Football Daily via Twitter (h/t football.london), Chelsea are prepared to go big and offer £60 million for Everton forward Anthony Gordon. Thomas Tuchel has been interested in the 21-year-old for some time now.

This is not the first bid coming from the London club, with a bid worth £40-45 million being rejected by the Toffees earlier this month. Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in the player and wanted to sign him together with Richarlison.

Now Chelsea plan to go big. The Blues have been in the market for another forward and are also interested in Rafael Leao from AC Milan. But it seems Gordon has taken precedence with the club willing to go all out for him.

The 21-year-old England Under-21 international was crucial for the Merseyside club last season. He scored four goals and provided two assists in 35 league appearances, helping Frank Lampard’s side avoid relegation. Gordon has started all three games this season but is yet to score.

A left-winger by trade, he can be deployed in the right-wing and as an attacking midfielder whenever required. He has also played as a false number nine for Everton in the past few games. With the future of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic still uncertain, Gordon would make an ideal signing for Tuchel.

He could potentially partner up with Raheem Sterling on the wings or play in the midfield with either N’Golo Kante or Jorginho. Given his age and pace, he could also be deployed in the wing-back positions. The player will bring in a lot of versatility, something that Tuchel loves to have in his players.

Anthony Gordon is of interest to Chelsea.

But his price could be the topic for discussion. Some would say that is a lot to pay for someone who is not experienced enough. While some could argue that he is yet to play for his country’s senior team. But the recent trend in the market has been this. Young and versatile players are now taking precedence over experienced players.
