21-year-old Chelsea star close to joining to moving to Bundesliga on loan

Transfer News: Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi is close to joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth via Twitter (h/t Mirror), Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is close to joining Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old will leave for a season-long loan.

The reporter adds that as many as 20 different clubs had approached the Blues for the player. Borussia Dortmund were also in the running for his signature, but he will likely be joining their rivals this season.

Hudson-Odoi has spent his entire career at Chelsea. The player joined the club when he was just six years old and was promoted to the senior team in 2019. But the winger has struggled for playing time.

The 21-year-old struggled to play last season. He could only manage to make 28 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting another six. The forward also missed most of the second half of last season due to injury.

He was included in Thomas Tuchel’s pre-season squad but has not done him a world of good. The arrival of Raheem Sterling and the potential arrival of Anthony Gordon will likely push the winger further down the pecking order. It is a wise decision to allow the player to leave on loan.

Hudson-Odoi can get his desired playing time at the German club. Leverkusen’s both right-wingers are currently injured and the Englishman can cement his place in the team before they return. Both the club and player are said to be in advanced talks, as they all look to complete the deal before the deadline next Thursday.

Callum Hudson-Odoi could be on his way to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Chelsea will be happy that their talented winger is just leaving on a simple loan. This will allow them to monitor his progress and maybe take a decision on his future for the good. Hudson-Odoi also could use this opportunity to show why Tuchel should consider him in his squad.

Just 21, the winger has a long and bright career ahead of him. A reignite in form could also likely give the winger a shot at making the England squad for the World Cup in November. Hopefully, the deal goes through and there are no roadblocks to it.
