Sterling hails Chelsea for their passion and commitment vs Leicester City

Raheem Sterling hails Chelsea team-mates after Leicester City win

Raheem Sterling opened his Chelsea account after his double helped his side win 2-1 against Leicester City at home. And the 27-year-old heaped praise on his teammates after the win.

Speaking to the club’s website (h/t Daily Mail), the England international praised his side for showing passion and commitment, despite playing with only 10 men.

Even going down to 10 men, the boys showed a lot of passion and commitment to get the job done and it was a good win for us. It was a big team performance and everyone played their part.

Thomas Tuchel’s side needed this win after the trashing they received last week from Leeds United. This was the Blues’ second victory of the season and they currently sit sixth on the table with seven points on the board.

Conor Gallagher was sent off after just 28 minutes when he received his second yellow card for an unnecessary foul on Harvey Barnes. The Blues lost a man and still had more than an hour to play.

However, Sterling had different ideas. The Englishman gave the Blues the lead in the 47th minute from a deflected effort. He then turned home Reece James’ cross from the far post to make it 2-0 just after the hour mark. However, the Foxes got one back with Barnes scoring in the 66th minute.

Sterling also praised Edouard Mendy and Kai Havertz. Mendy made some big saves, while Havertz led from the front; at least that’s what the Englishman thought.

It’s teams that win games and everyone pulled their weight today. Edou (Mendy) made some big saves and Kai (Havertz) led from the front, working his socks off to defend high up the pitch.

Tuchel was also absent from the touchline. The German coach was serving a touchline ban following his red card after a scuffle with Antonio Conte during the derby against Tottenham Hotspur. He will, however, be available on the touchline from their next game.
