Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana close to completing Chelsea switch
Chelsea are close to signing Wesley Fofana from Leicester City. The Blues are preparing the paperwork to complete the French defender’s transfer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Stamford Bridge side have seemingly been after the 21-year-old for a while now. Chelsea evidently needed to bolster their backline this summer and it seems Fofana is going to be the second defender to come through the doors this summer.
The French national is going to put pen to paper on a contract until 2028. Fofana has been longing for Chelsea this transfer window and it appears the move is about to go through.
The Blues saw a number of their star centre-backs leave the club this summer. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s contracts expired at the end of last season and the duo switched from the Premier League to La Liga.
Chelsea have brought a centre-back in this transfer window. Kalidou Koulibaly joined the club from Napoli. The Senegalese was one of the best defenders in Serie A before coming to England.
Malang Sarr has also left the Stamford Bridge side. The Frenchman has joined Monaco on loan. The 23-year-old failed to establish himself in Thomas Tuchel’s plans after being given chances in the previous campaign.
Thiago Silva has been a constant in our backline since arriving in 2020. The Brazilian veteran has been one of the best centre-backs over the last two seasons and has started the 2022/23 campaign in a similar vein.
Cesar Azpilicueata has ended up staying at Chelsea. Our captain is capable of playing in the back-three. Reece James has also been deployed by Tuchel in the backline this season in a seemingly hybrid role.
