“Has to come a time”: Former Blues boss sends ultimatum to Chelsea transfer target

Everton manager Frank Lampard sends a message to Chelsea target Anthony Gordon

Chelsea have seemingly been given an ultimatum by Everton manager Frank Lampard regarding the transfer of target Anthony Gordon this summer. The former Stamford Bridge legend has suggested a cut-off point for a possible move.

Chelsea have been linked with Gordon this summer. The Toffees struggled last season as they were fighting relegation. Their 21-year-old academy product had a breakthrough campaign with the Goodison side, helping them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Speaking on a deal with the Blues for the 21-year-old, via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the Everton manager imposed a demand regarding coming to terms with the Stamford Bridge side. Lampard, who spent 13 seasons at Chelsea, is close to a deadline for Gordon’s move.

“There absolutely has to come a time where we understand what squad is going to be, especially on Anthony.

“I won’t say where it [the cut-off point] is, but I think you understand I am getting very close to it.”

The Stamford Bridge side have let go of a few forwards this summer. Romelu Lukaku was the first one to leave the club. The Belgian re-joined Inter Milan on loan. The 29-year-old struggled in a blue shirt last season.

Timo Werner has also moved back to Germany. The 26-year-old went back to RB Leipzig, where he first showed form. The forward was unable to live up to expectations in England.

Chelsea have signed only one attacking option in Raheem Sterling until now during the current transfer window. The England international joined from Manchester City.

However, fans have been crying out for a centre-forward. The Blues evidently lack a prolific goalscorer in the side. Kai Havertz has been deployed as a number nine, but the German has struggled to put the ball in the back of the net.

Chelsea seem to have a lot of options on the wings. Sterling, Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all capable of playing out wide.
