Crystal Palace to launch one final move to land Conor Gallagher

Crystal Palace make £27m bid to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea

According to The Telegraph, Crystal Palace are still keen to add Conor Gallagher to their ranks and are prepared to offer £27m for the Chelsea midfielder, who has not had the best of starts in a Chelsea shirt this season.

Conor Gallagher had a breakthrough last season with Crystal Palace and was an integral part of the new Patrick Vieira side where he made 39 appearances, scoring eight goals and notching up two assists.

Since it was a loan deal, Gallagher returned to Chelsea in the pre-season in a bid to make his mark in the Blues’ first team. Many expected Gallagher to make the transition efficiently and although it has just been four games into the season, it feels like the Englishman is not able to show the high levels that he showed last season.

Crystal Palace have been monitoring the situation closely and looks set to land the midfielder in a permanent transfer and allow him to bring back his patch of form of last season, which also resulted in the player making his international debut for England.

With the World Cup approaching, Gallagher would be looking to stake his claim in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup and for that he would require regular minutes and impressive performances, something that Crystal Palace can provide him.

Patrick Vieira made an astute move in singing Cheick Doucoure to Lens for the role played by Gallagher last season but the French manager is still keen to add the Chelsea midfielder to his ranks due to his versatility of being able to play different positions in the midfield.

Conor Gallagher has been given the nod by Thomas Tuchel by giving him two starts early in the campaign but the midfielder has failed to capitalise on it and has been caught lacking decisiveness on the main stage.

This was evident from the last home game against Leicester City, where he was showed a red card for two cynical challenges in the first half an hour of the game, thus making it a difficult battle for Chelsea to get the win.

It is quite possible that Gallagher might not start another game for Chelsea soon. With Wesley Fofana coming in, there was a restructuring of the squad with Reece James moving back to his preferred wing-back role and Ruben Loftus Cheek back to midfield.

Thus, the last few days present a dilemma for the midfielder to either stay at his dream club and wait for an opportunity or make a move to a club where he would be central to the team’s play.
