Romano: Chelsea schedule fresh talks to sign €30m star playing in La Liga

Chelsea have scheduled a new round of talks with the camp of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

According to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have scheduled a new round of talks with the camp of former Arsenal and current Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this week.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wants to know and understand the conditions of the deal on personal terms before making a bid to Barcelona to sign the 33-year-old striker. The Spanish giants will demand around €30m for the player, while their manager Xavi is keen to keep him in the squad.

Chelsea have been linked with Aubameyang for some time now during this transfer window. Now, as we enter the last two weeks before deadline day, things need to speed up if they are to complete this signing. It is clear that the London club needs a number nine after allowing Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to leave.

Barcelona signed Aubameyang in the January window of this year from Arsenal. From then till the end of last season, the 33-year-old was one of the shining lights for the Catalan-based club. He scored 13 goals and assisted one in 23 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side in the latter half of last season.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel knows the striker because of the time spent together when they were in Borussia Dortmund. Currently, aside from Armando Broja, the Blues do not have an out-and-out number nine in their squad. Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz have shared that role in the two Premier League games so far.

Thus, everything points in the direction of Aubameyang being a good addition to the Chelsea squad. The 33-year-old has experience of English football when he was at Arsenal.

He scored 68 goals and assisted 16 in 128 league appearances for the Gunners, which is a more than decent return for someone who didn’t always play through the middle at the Emirates Stadium.

Playing through the middle in a quality-laden Chelsea side should see him getting loads of chances to score goals. But for that, the Blues would have to formalise their interest in him and actually strike a deal with Barca, who now have Robert Lewandowski to lead their line.
